Friendship City 20th Anniversary Delegation to China "Takaoka Goodwill Delegation" in 2005

In 2005, Jinzhou and Takaoka celebrated the 20th anniversary of the founding of their Frienship City relationship. The Jinzhou Frienship City and Economic and Trade Exploratory Delegation visited Takaoka in early August 2005, and later that same month the Takaoka Goodwill Delegation and the Takaoka Citizens Friendship Delegation, which was organized by the Takaoka China-Japan Friendship Association, both paid a visit to Jinzhou.

1. The Jinzhou Frienship City and Economic and Trade Exploratory Delegation's Visit

The Jinzhou Frienship City and Economic and Trade Exploratory Delegation -- made up of Vice-Mayor Lee and six other members -- arrived in Takaoka on August 3rd, and spent the next four days touring the city and attending various celebratory events.

The Delegation met with the Mayor of Takaoka, and were the guests of honor at the Friendship Cities 20th Anniversary Ceremony and Banquet, where they were welcomed by members of the Takaoka China-Japan Friendship Association, the Takaoka Better Business Bureau, the Takaoka Shikino Lions Club, and the Takaoka Hato no Kai. The Delegation also spent time touring various industries and companies in both Takaoka and Fukuoka.

The Delegation's visit just happened to correspond with the annual Takaoka Tanabata celebration. Because of this, they were able to enjoy the Sho River fireworks display and festive atmosphere that permeates Takaoka during this time.

Dates of Visit: Wednesday, August 3rd to Saturday, August 6th, 2005 (four days).

2. The Takaoka Goodwill Delegation and Takaoka Citizens Friendship Delegation

On Wednesday, August 24th, the Takaoka Goodwill Delegation and Takaoka Citizens Friendship Delegation left Takaoka for Jinzhou. The Takaoka Goodwill Delegation was a 20 person group which consisted of the Mayor and City Council Members of Takaoka, as well as representatives of various organizations within Takaoka, and it spent the next four days in Jinzhou. The Takaoka Citizens Friendship Delegation, 76 people strong, was made up by people connected with and chosen by the Takaoka China-Japan Friendship Association, and it spent six days in Jinzhou.

The Takaoka Goodwill Delegation were greeted by the Mayor of Jinzhou, members of the Jinzhou branch of the Communist Party of China, and a number of Citizen Representatives. Members took part in a Anniversary Ceremony and Banquet, saw the sights of Jinzhou, and visited the Jinzhou Economic and Technological Development District.

Meanwhile, the Citizens Friendship Delegation put on a photo exibition entitled "Manyo Culture" and participated in a friendly ping-pong tournament. They also performed a Noh play, a traditional tea ceremony, traditional dances, and so forth for the enjoyment of the people of Jinzhou.
