〜The City of Sun and Trees〜


1　Mirandopolis and Takaoka became Sister Cities on October 19th, 1974.

2　The Story Behind the Relationship:

In April of 1974, Mayor Fario of Mirandopolis, along with Vice Mayor Antonio and others, paid a visit to Takaoka to inspect some aluminum production facilities. During their visit, they approached Mayor Hori of Takaoka with the idea of becoming sister cities.
The Ariansa district of Mirandopolis is home to many Toyamans and their decendants, earning it the nickname "Toyama Village." Additionally, during this time plans were already underway for the construction of a joint Japan-Brazil managed aluminum factory. For these reasons the sister city plan was approved at the June 1974 meeting of the Takaoka City Council.
The signing ceremony for the agreement was held in October of that same year in Mirandopolis when Mayor Hori, travelling as an advisor on the Toyama Prefectural Youth Voyage, paid a visit to Brazil.

3　About Mirandopolis:

Mirandopolis is located approximately 600 km, or 10 hours by bus, West-North-West of San Paulo. It is a beautiful city, surrounded by farmland and pastures and near the Parana River on a quiet plateau some 400-500 meters high. The primary agricultural industries include cattle (both dairy and beef), poultry, silkworms, rice, coffee, corn, and orchard-based fruits. Thanks to the momentum caused by the estabishment of an aluminum manufacturing plant from Takaoka, the area's heavy industry sector also began to develop.
The joint business venture Nichinan Aluminum Company opened its doors in July of 1976, spurring on a growth in employment and contributing to a rise in skilled laborers in the area.
Mirandopolis is a rural city surrounded by pastures and farmland.
