Sister Cities
Takaoka currently has three sister cities.
- Mirandopolis 〔San Paulo, Brazil〕 Sister City since October 19th, 1974
Mirandopolis is located approximately 600 km West-North-West of San Paulo. It is a beautiful city, surrounded by farmland and pastures and near the Parana River on a quiet plateau some 400-500 meters high. The Ariansa district of Mirandopolis is known as "Toyama Village," and is home to many Takaokans and their desendants. The main industries are dairy, poultry, coffee, and cotton. Mirandopolis and Takaoka celebrated their 30th anniversary as sister cities in 2004.

- Fort Wayne 〔Indiana, USA〕 Sister City since April 8th, 1977
Fort Wayne is the second largest city in Indiana after Indianapolis. Located centrally between Chicago, Detroit, Toledo, Cincinatti, and other major midwestern cities, it is an integral part of the commercial and industrial belt surrounding the Great Lakes. Furthermore, it is also a cultural center; home to seven universities and a philharmonic orchestra. Three rivers, the St. Mary's, the St. Joseph, and the Maumee, meet in the center of town and form the basis for the yearly Three Rivers Fest held every summer.

- Jinzhou 〔Liaoning Province, People's Republic of China〕 Friendship City since August 10th, 1985
Jinzhou is located in the southwest of the Liaoning Province, and is a major crossroads for railroads and highways in the area. Blessed with abundant natural resources, its main commercial industries are oil, chemicals, textiles, and paper, and its main agricultural products are peanuts, kaoliang, corn, and soy beans. It is especially famous for peanuts. It is also home to 3,000 years worth of history and is rich in cultural artifacts and famous remains. Jinzhou and Takaoka celebrated their 20th anniversary as friendship cities in 2005.
